Applications of Particle Tracking Velocimetry to severe nuclear accident experimentation

چکیده
Experimental research into severe nuclear accidents may entail the discharge of a very high-temperature lava-like molten fuel mixture, corium, either pool less-dense, more-volatile coolant or onto solid substrate where corium will spread and cool. In both instances, remote, high-speed video imaging is usually required to interpret these transient interactions PTV represents powerful tool for characterisation dynamic properties discrete melt fragments distinctive features in surface during spreading. Nuclear fuel-coolant present particular challenges analysis as jet its can exhibit high rates inter-frame deformation undergo fragmentation with relatively frequency. A algorithm, adapted challenges, presented whereby user-defined tolerance evolution certain particle used refine potential candidate particles prior matching. This refinement step distinguish between acceptable levels successive sightings given particle, more substantial changes consistent coalescence, requiring tracking new particle. Implementation algorithm (1) an X-ray from FCINA-30-1 experiment stainless steel liquid sodium, conducted at JAEA’s MELT facility, (2) VE-U9-ceramic corium-thermite mixture spreading on zirconium substrate, CEA’s VULCANO facility. The latter case-study enabled characterization > 70,000 local velocity vectors locations corresponding temperature heterogeneities melt, providing extensive insight dynamics validation models.

Applying Feature Tracking to Particle Image Velocimetry
Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is a popular approach to flow visualisation and measurement in hydroand aerodynamic studies and applications [7]. The fluid is seeded with particles that follow the flow and make it visible. Traditionally, correlation techniques have been used to estimate the displacements of the particles in a digital PIV sequence. Recently, we have successfully applied to PIV ...
متن کاملDigital Holography Based Particle Tracking Velocimetry
Digital holography appears to be the next-generation technology for holographic diagnostics of particle fields and has been applied to holographic particle tracking flow measurements. In the digital holography, the Fresnel or Fourier holograms are recorded directly by the CCD or CMOS cameras and stored digitally. No film material involving wet-chemical or other processing is necessary as in opt...
متن کاملSingle-camera, three-dimensional particle tracking velocimetry.
This paper introduces single-camera, three-dimensional particle tracking velocimetry (SC3D-PTV), an image-based, single-camera technique for measuring 3-component, volumetric velocity fields in environments with limited optical access, in particular, optically accessible internal combustion engines. The optical components used for SC3D-PTV are similar to those used for two-camera stereoscopic-µ...
متن کاملA variational approach for particle tracking velocimetry
We introduce a novel variational approach for evaluating PTV image pairs and sequences in two and three dimensions. We combine a discrete non-differentiable particle matching term with a continuous regularization term. An advanced mathematical method guarantees convergence to a local minimum. The experimental evaluation shows that our variational method competes with three alternative approache...
